Postpartum Counselling & Mental Health Support
Care for Yourself So You Can Care for Your Baby
A new identity. A different body. A new tiny human to care for with no handbook…the postpartum period comes with a lot of change. Becoming a parent is one of the most significant transitions you’ll experience in your lifetime.
Our therapists provide compassionate postpartum counselling to help you navigate the overwhelm, emotional changes, identity shifts, and the challenges of adjusting to life with a new baby.
FAQ’S
-
The difference often comes down to the intensity, duration, and impact of your symptoms. Baby blues are very common and typically improve within the first two weeks after birth, with feelings of tearfulness, overwhelm, and emotional sensitivity that come and go. Postpartum depression involves more persistent or intense symptoms that interfere with daily life, negative thoughts related to yourself as a parent, and struggling to find joy in the postpartum period which may require professional support.
-
Intrusive thoughts are quite common during the postpartum period, and having them does not mean you want them to happen or that you are a bad parent. We become more concerned when thoughts are frequent, difficult to move past, causing significant distress, or leading you to alter your behaviour.
-
Resentment is often a sign of unmet needs, exhaustion, or feeling unsupported. Individual therapy can help you identify your needs, communicate more effectively, and navigate changes in roles and responsibilities after having a baby. Couples therapy can also be supportive if the conversations are difficult to have on your own.
-
It is absolutely normal to be grateful for your baby and miss your old life at the same time. Having a child is a huge transition, and it can take time to adjust to the new normal and your new identity, grieving your old life along the way. Therapy can help you make sense of all of the changes while grounding yourself in your values.

-
Postpartum anxiety is common and can involve excessive worry, racing thoughts, difficulty relaxing, or feeling constantly on alert. While some worry is a normal part of adjusting to parenthood, therapy can help when anxiety feels overwhelming or begins to interfere with your daily life.
-
You do not need to wait until you are in crisis to seek support. Therapy can be helpful at any stage of the postpartum period, whether you are feeling overwhelmed, struggling with your identity, adjusting to changes in relationships, or simply wanting support during this major transition.
